Twelve members of the Qingdao Arbitration Commission visited the School of Law on 13 May to receive a lecture on the WTO dispute settlement system.
On 10 May the University Grants Committee (UGC) made an announcement concerning the Academic Development Proposals (ADPs) submitted by the eight UGC-funded institutions for the 2005-08 triennium. CityU’s proposal to make creative media a growth / priority area was endorsed. Out of the 840 second year intake top-up places that UGC allocated to the eight institutions, CityU received 210 places, the second largest number.
CityU and the University of Paris Dauphine signed a cooperation agreement on 13 May to launch a joint Master of Science in Mathematics for Finance and Actuarial Science degree--the first of its kind in Hong Kong.
A forum stimulating reflection upon the role of universities in secondary education curriculum reforms kicked off CityU’s Teachers Update Course (TUC), 12 May. More than 80 secondary school principals and teachers, and 40 CityU staff members attended to celebrate the event. TUC is a professional development programme CityU offers secondary school principals and teachers to update their knowledge on subject content and pedagogy.
Fifteen CityU students from the Department of Building and Construction (BC), volunteered as architecture and cost planners in a student hostel re-development project in Guangxi province. The project, due to complete in October this year, will accommodate 288 primary students.
Global mobility is reshaping the world. With the speed of globalization, the rise of information technology and the dramatic increase in multinational enterprises, the world truly has become a global village. In order to prepare students for this reality, CityU encourages its undergraduate students to participate in overseas exchange programmes.
Two students from the School of Creative Media (SCM) clinched the “Best Digital Effects” trophy in the 2nd Hong Kong Digital Entertainment Excellence Awards (HKDEEA).
