In recognition of their quality management, two student placement programmes offered by CityU's Faculty of Science and Engineering (FSE), the Industrial Attachment Scheme (IAS) and the Co-operative Education Scheme (CES), have been awarded an ISO 9001:2000 accreditation from SGS Hong Kong Ltd.
The Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre was brimming with people of all ages and nationalities from noon until 4 p.m. 7 February, and many of them had legal activities on their minds. Whether it was to land a summer placement with Clifford Chance, seek a career opportunity or investigate law programmes, some 100 people milled about Room 201, the venue for this year's Law Fair.
CityU's College of Higher Vocational Studies signed a collaborative agreement with Coventry University in the UK on 9 February to launch a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Business Information Technology. It is the first full-time top-up degree programme in IT and e-commerce related fields jointly put forth by the College's Division of Computer Studies and an overseas institution.
They're packing their bags and heading for Galldachd (the Lowlands of Scotland) to sort out some neighbourhood nuisance. Second year students in CityU's School of Law, Fanny Ting Fong Siu and Timothy Ma Tin Tai teamed up to outperform Hong Kong University (HKU) in the Hong Kong Round of the Louis M Brown International Client Counselling Competition (ICCC) on 31st January 2004.
Students of CityU's School of Creative Media (SCM) are making their mark on the local and the international scene. Hamlet Lin Yiu-bong and Chan Tze-him, year three and year two SCM students respectively, showcased their media production and creative narration skills in the recent Radio Hong Kong Television (RTHK) Putonghua Festival Short Movie Contest.
The demand for knowledge of international accounting rules and practices, coupled with a desire to improve their English language skills, has prompted the accounting professionals in the mainland China to look for quality programmes with an international slant.
CityU's achievements in education have received high praise in the second round Teaching and Learning Quality Process Review (TLQPR). "There is an underlying and comprehensive quality assurance structure in place at CityU, that draws on a culture of evidence," said the Panel in the TLQPR Report.
Our students shone at the 8th Challenger Cup Competition, a national inter-varsity contest for academic, scientific and technological research, by winning second place overall (Hong Kong/Macau section) and several individual awards.
CityU's School of Continuing and Professional Education (SCOPE) will launch certificate and diploma hospitality management programmes in March 2004 in partnership with the hotel management trainer Educational Institute of the American Hotel & Lodging Association (EI of AH&LA). These new initiatives target adults working in the industry and school leavers who aim to pursue a career in hotel management.
