The 17th Congregation marked a new chapter in the lives of this year's 6,864 graduates. Upon their shoulders rests the future, and CityU's President Professor H K Chang reminded them in his address, "You cannot plot out your life's story and anything is possible." He said, "With hard work and determination you can succeed in anything you do and go anywhere you choose. The future is yours." (Please turn to page 8 for the full text of the President's address.)
At the Congregation's fourth session on 13 November, the University conferred honorary degrees on three prominent and distinguished people. Dr William Mong Man-wai (1), Chairman and Senior Managing Director of the Shun Hing Group and dedicated community leader, was conferred with the honorary degree of Doctor of Social Science. Professor Qu Geping (2), a seminal figure in the development of China's environmental protection policies
In a festive and jubilant mood, more than 250 alumni came home to CityU to mingle with each other, catch up with their professors and mentors and, above all, learn more about the latest developments at their alma mater.
On 25 November, seven days after the Independent Committee (IC) submitted a report on the recent events in the School of Law (SLW), the Council, decided unanimously to accept the IC's major findings and recommendations, but added a few caveats.
