Two City University students have a one-week study tour at the University of Washington to look forward to this summer, thanks to a winning business plan. Ms Rachel Lui and Mr Matthew Chang, students from the Faculty of Business and Faculty of Science and Engineering, respectively, won the Gold Award in the Third HSBC Young IT Entrepreneur Awards on 27 March.

Abstract concepts of physics and mathematics are hardly the kind of topics that fill a room and thrill on audience. Professor Sir Michael Berry's lecture on the "seven wonders of physics" at City University on 18 February was, however, nothing short of a small wonder itself. Not only was the Multi-Media Conference Room packed to the brim with an audience of 500, many of whom had travelled from other universities across the city, but every pair of eyes stayed glued to the charismatic speaker.
In a display of its commitment to the advancement of teaching and research in the region, IBM China/Hong Kong Ltd has donated an e-business software package worth more than HK$14 million to CityU.
"I wish the industrial training could be longer than it is now," said Ada Chan Hiu Kei, a third-year student in the computer engineering stream of the Department of Electronic Engineering. "I also think that the scheme should be extended to students from other faculties as well."

For here was a robot capable of crawling through cramped ventilation ducts for inspection and cleaning, a robotic petrol-filling station, a fearless robot that can scale the walls of high-rise buildings and clean windows, and a robotic muscle arm for nursing, just to name a few.
