CityUHK Spring Festival celebrates Chinese New Year with students

President Boey led the senior leadership team and guests to add the finishing touches to the dragon before the luminous dragon performance. The dragon then danced vividly amid the festive music of gongs and drums, bringing the night to a climax.

 

Organised by the Student Residence Office of City University of Hong Kong (CityUHK), a series of activities capturing the essence of Chinese traditions were held at the Spring Festival on 22 February. More than 1,500 students from various countries and areas gathered to celebrate the Chinese New Year.

 

Professor Freddy Boey, President of CityUHK led the senior leadership team and guests to add the finishing touches to the dragon before the signature luminous dragon performance.

超過1,500位來自逾70個國家及地區的學生出席「城.春節」活動,一同歡度佳節。
Over 1,500 students from more than 70 countries and areas gathered to celebrate the Chinese New Year at the Spring Festival.

 

President Boey said, “CityUHK was recognised as the Most International University in the world in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2024. This is reflected in this event, with a record of over 1,500 students from more than 70 countries and areas participating, showcasing CityUHK’s reputation as an internationalised university that fosters cultural exchange. We will continue to enrich the student learning experience by encouraging them to learn innovatively and to go beyond academic boundaries to prepare our students for success in the fast-changing world and for innovating into the future.”

Other spectacular activities included the CityUHK Chinese Orchestra performing festive pieces, a luminous lion dance performance, festive food and game booths. Students also showcased their talent and diversified cultures by presenting an array of singing, dancing and rope skipping performances.

城大中樂團呈獻四首節慶樂曲,包括《迎春花》、《祝福你》、《歡樂年年》和《金蛇狂舞》。
The CityUHK Chinese Orchestra presented four festive pieces: 迎春花, 祝福你, 歡樂年年 and 金蛇狂舞.

 

「城.春節」特設賀年食物及遊戲攤位,讓不同國家及地區的學生體驗中國傳統文化。
Festive food and game booths were set up at the Spring Festival to give students from various countries and areas a taste of Chinese traditional culture.

 

幾位國際學生帶來歌唱表演,透過音樂作文化交流。
Some international students presented a singing performance to promote cultural exchange through melodic tunes.

 

中國傳統舞蹈表演令活動更添節慶氣氛。
The Chinese traditional dance performance added a festive touch to the event.
