IAS workshop explores systems and control

A two-day workshop on the frontiers in systems and control organised by the Institute for Advanced Study (IAS) was held at City University of Hong Kong (CityU) from 24 to 25 August.

The workshop provided a platform for scholars to discuss the latest developments in the field of systems and control. The field covers a range of applications including guided missiles and rockets, robotics, smart cities and infrastructures, power grids, IOT (internet of things), driverless cars, healthcare, supply chains, and financial systems.

The 16 invited speakers included some of the most prominent leaders in the field: members of the US National Academy of Engineering and the Chinese Academy of Sciences; the president of the IEEE Control Systems Society; and distinguished professors from universities in US, mainland China and Hong Kong.

Professor Ho Yu-chi from the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences at Harvard University and an IEEE Life Fellow delivered the opening lecture, titled “Living My American Dream: A Retrospective on an un-American Life”.

In addition, Professor David Yao, IAS Director, who works at Columbia University and is a member of the US National Academy of Engineering, delivered a lecture titled “Integrated Risk-Hedging Control and Production Planning”.
