The Department of Infectious Diseases and Public Health welcomes Prof. David Hampson as its new Head of Department.

Prof. Hampson is a world-renowned veterinary microbiologist and recently joined City University as Chair Professor in Pathobiology.



The City University of Hong Kong (CityU) has established a College of Veterinary Medicine and Life Sciences (the College), which offers the first Bachelor degree in veterinary medicine in Hong Kong. A key focus area for the College is Aquatic animal health. Today the College is seeking your assistance in identifying the educational needs of various stakeholders in Aquaculture and related sectors locally, in Mainland China, Asia, and beyond.


A team of researchers led by Prof. Dirk Pfeiffer (Chair Professor of One Health, CityU) has assessed the risk of release of foot and mouth disease (FMD) virus through export of bull semen in order to estimate the risk for FMD-free countries considering purchasing Israeli bull semen.


Prof. Michael Reichel (Chair Professor of Veterinary Medicine and Dean of the College of Veterinary Medicine and Life Sciences) and researchers from the School of Animal and Veterinary Sciences, University of Adelaide, Australia, have investigated the clinical, haematological and reproductive responses in pregnant ewes infected with the predominant Australian Bovine Viral Diarrhoea Virus (BVDV) strain, BVDV-1c.


Prof. Dirk Pfeiffer (Chair Professor of One Health) delivered a presentation titled ‘Interdisciplinarity for More Effective Control and Prevention of Infectious Pathogen Spread in Animal Populations’ at the ‘International Conference on One Health: Connect and Protect’ which took place in Hong Kong on 5 - 6 September 2017.


Dr. Sarah Rosanowski recently joined the Department of Infectious Diseases and Public Health as an Assistant Professor in Evidence Based Veterinary Medicine.


Prof. Sophie St-Hilaire recently joined the Department of Infectious Diseases and Public Health as Professor of Aquatic Animal Health.


Professor Michael Reichel, Chair Professor of Veterinary Medicine and Dean of the College of Veterinary Medicine and Life Sciences, attended the 26th Conference of the World Association for the Advancement of Veterinary Parasitology (WAAVP) meeting in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia (4 to 8 September 2017).


Prof. Michael Reichel (Chair Professor of Veterinary Medicine and Dean of the College of Veterinary Medicine and Life Sciences) attended the 16th Asian Association of Veterinary Schools (AAVS) meeting held in conjunction with the 33rd World Veterinary Congress in Incheon, South Korea, from 27 to 31 August 2017.


A team of dedicated faculty and staff at City University of Hong Kong (CityU) has received the 2017 Team Award for Teaching Excellence from the University Grants Committee (UGC) for the groundbreaking Discovery-enriched Curriculum (DEC).
