Professor Roderick Wong Conferred the Title of Emeritus Professor by the University Council

Professor Roderick Wong, former Chair Professor in the Department of Mathematics, was conferred the title of Emeritus Professor by the University Council on 26 March 2020 in recognition of his distinguished contribution to the mathematical development of CityU, support of research activities, and service to the community during his tenure of office from 1994 to 2019.

Professor Wong is a world-class mathematician specializing in asymptotic analysis, perturbation methods, singular perturbation theory, special functions and orthogonal polynomials, integral transforms, integral equations and ordinary differential equations. He joined CityU in 1994 as the Founding Head of the Department of Mathematics (1994-1996). He was the Dean of the former College of Science and Engineering (1998-2004). As Dean of Research and Graduate Studies (2004-2006), Vice-President (Research)/ Dean of Graduate Studies (2006-2008), Vice-President (Research & Technology) and Dean of Graduate Studies (Jan 2009-Nov 2009), Professor Wong has consolidated the University's research degree programmes including the joint supervision scheme with Mainland universities. He established the Liu Bie Ju Centre for Mathematical Sciences in 1995 and solicited many major donations during his services. He has received many prestigious awards and honors, with over 140 journal papers published in top mathematics journals.
