Joint University Mental-wellness Project (JUMP)

Community Project (2018-19)

Community Project is one of the key inter-institutional activities of Joint University Mental-wellness Project (JUMP) in 2018-19, which serves as a platform for students to apply the theories of Positive Psychology into a project aiming to promote mental-wellness in their fellow schoolmates, or professionals of the respective professions, e.g. engineers, nurses, teachers, or people in the community.  Students need to design a project/ activities with the use of Positive Psychology theories and integrate them with their ideas generated from their past experiences, expertise, talents and interests.  They can actualize their own activity plans in the university, their own profession or the community.

 

Target students:

All full time undergraduate students of the five participating universities in 2019 are welcomed.

Form of participation:

  1. as individuals
  2. in team (2 – 10 students)

Project Outputs:

We treasure project outputs with diversity. Ideas are proposed by student freely and will be implemented after consultation and adjustments. Project outputs are not limited to services such as providing services to the general public or non-government organizations. Non-service outputs such as creation of promotion materials or platforms are welcomed. The aim is to promote the application of positive psychology and enhance the well-being of undergraduate students and the general public. We welcome suggestions and further discussion.

Examples:

1.     Services

-           design and lead experiential activities for primary school students, so as to enhance their understanding in positive psychology and mental wellness

-           design booth games for the general public to enhance their understanding in positive psychology and mental wellness

-         design activities to enhance wellbeing of their own professions, e.g. teachers, engineers, lawyers, nurses.

2.     Non-services

-           create videos in promotion of the application of positive psychology and awareness of mental wellness

-           design learning cards or pamphlets in introducing positive psychology and mental wellness

-       create experience sharing platforms, such as webpage, social media page or mobile apps

-       formulate a debriefing guideline for positive experiential activities

Service: 3 sessions of service / 6 hours of service

Non-service: 30 or above beneficiaries

In consideration of the group size, the time frame for execution of the plan and the level of difficulty of the project, the above requirement is a proposed standard and is subject to change. The requirement may be adjusted to facilitate the implementation of the project during the activity planning meetings. For details, please contact the project staff for enquiries.

 

Duration:

All projects must be completed before 31 August 2019.

 

Budget:

We provide budget for every participating unit.  The amount might be adjusted according to the team size and activity. The project-in-charge will have the final decision.

 

Proposal:

Participants are required to summit a project proposal, including

  1. the rationale and objectives
  2. target group,
  3. implementation plan and
  4. budget plan of their project.

 

Privilege:

  1. Well designed and implemented projects will be presented by participant(s) in the International Positive Education Conference under the JUMP Project in 2020.
  2. Participants will be placed on higher priority to join the Taiwan study tour (free of charge and with limited quotas) organized by the JUMP project in 2019.
