Eligibility Newly Admitted Full-time Research Degree Students (RPGs) in Academic Year 2026/27
(i.e., whose commencement date on 1 September 2026 and thereafter)
Compound Allocation Higher priority will be granted to newly admitted UGC-funded RPGs during their first year of study (i.e., Academic Year 2026/27) at the Ma On Shan Compound.

Such privilege is NOT transferable to any subsequent years of study (i.e., the second year of study and thereafter). From the second year of study, lot-drawing mechanism would be used to allocate hall places at Cornwall Street/Jockey Club House located at Kowloon Tong Compound (subject to timely submission of hall application and in the same pool with current RPGs).

Room Type There are Double Rooms and Single Rooms available at Ma On Shan Compound. Rooms will be assigned to residents of same gender. Room type will be assigned by drawing lots. Residents are not allowed to change rooms unless request is made and duly approved by the Residence Master and Student Residence Office.(Layout)

Important Notes

  1. There is no guarantee that students will be granted a residence place during their studies. Late offers will be considered subject to availability.
  2. After all applications of eligible groups have been processed, available hall places will be offered on a rolling basis to the following students:
    1. Full-time RPGs in non-UGC-funded programmes
    2. Full-time RPGs who have applied for extension of study (out-timers)
    3. Full-time non-local postgraduate students
    4. Research staff

    Hall places will be offered on a short-term basis. A surcharge of 25% will be levied on “out-timer” students and students of non-UGC-funded programmes. An additional 35% will be levied for those who switch to i) part-time status while holding full-time employment with the University and; ii) research staff. Allocation will be considered on a case-by-case basis, subject to room availability.
