Regular PE Courses

General

Q1)

Ans:

Who can enroll in the PE Courses?

Full-time students who can do the add/drop on AIMS can enroll in the PE Courses.

Ans:

When will the PE Courses be open for enrollment?

PE Courses will open for enrollment during the add/drop period of each semester via AIMS or the e-Portal.

Do I need to pay for the courses?

No, the Regular PE Courses are free-of-charge. (Except for “PED1402 Golf – Elementary” and “PED2402 Golf – Intermediate”, please refer to Q21 for details.)

Where can I find the PE Course timetable?

The timetable will be released two weeks before the add/drop period via CAP Message. It will also be displayed on the PE Section website and in Physical Fitness Rooms I and II.

You may also check the blue box in the [Master Class Schedule > Courses Offered in Semester X 20XX/XX] on AIMS.

How many PE Courses can I take each semester?

You may enroll in more than 1 PE Course each semester, as long as no academic or personal schedule conflicts occur.

How can I determine if I have successfully applied for the PE Courses?

You can view your Weekly Schedule on AIMS, where successfully enrolled PE courses will be displayed.

Attendance & Passing Requirement

Ans:

How to pass a PE Course?

To obtain a passing grade for the course, you must achieve at least 80% of attendance and pass the course assessment.

Ans:

What should I prepare when attending PE Courses?

You must attend the courses ON TIME with proper sportswear/attire (T-shirt with sports pants; NO JEANS will be allowed). Footwear must be non-marking rubber-soled sports shoes unless otherwise specified.

You would NOT be allowed to enter the class venue when the class is in progress for 15 minutes.

For "PED1305 Physical Fitness – Elementary" course, you would NOT be allowed to enter the class venue when the class is in progress for 5 minutes.

Ans:

Do I need to bring any equipment or gear when attending the courses?

All necessary equipment or gear will be provided, but you are still welcome to bring along your own gear if you wish.

Will I receive email reminders before each class after successfully enrolling?

No email reminders will be sent to successful applicants. You are responsible for tracking your own schedule and attending the enrolled classes. For PE Course Timetable, please click here.

Can I switch classes or attend make-up sessions if I miss a class?

NO switch or make-up classes will be arranged. Before adding the course(s), make sure to check your own academic schedule and assess your workload for the semester. If you are unable to attend, please email the instructor in advance with the supporting documentation for approval.
                
Absentees who do not achieve 80% of attendance and have not received prior approval from the instructor, will receive a “Not Completed” record mark on their transcript. Yet, the record will not affect the GPA.

Is there any chance for me to enroll in courses when they are full?

You may “stand-by” the course that you prefer. Stand-by policy is available for all PE Courses, except for "PED1305 Physical Fitness - Elementary". Stand-by admission is subject to the actual attendance and the instructor's discretion. While arriving early may improve your chances of successfully enrolling in the course, it does not guarantee entry.

Stand-by students should arrive at the teaching venues with proper sportswear/attire on the first lesson to check for available seats. Successful stand-by students will need to complete and submit the add form provided by the course instructor during the first lesson.

Does arriving early at the class venue guarantee a stand-by spot?

No. Stand-by admission is subject to the actual attendance and the instructor's discretion. While arriving early may increase your chances of successfully enrolling in the course, it does not guarantee entry.

Stand-by participants shall join at their own risk in case spots are not available.

Which types of students are not allowed to stand-by for PE Courses?

Students with the following conditions are NOT allowed to proceed for stand-by:

  • You have already enrolled in another section of the same course; or
  • You have a scheduled class in the same time slot with your line up section.

Ans:

What is the course duration? / How long does a course last?

Most of the courses last for 4 weeks (2 hours per week) or 8 weeks (1 hour per week), depend on the type of activities. (Except for “PED1305 Physical Fitness – Elementary” and “PED1804 Basic Mountain Craft”, please refer to Q19 and Q23 for details.)

Where should I attend the course(s) enrolled as I found that “TBA” is stated on AIMS?

As some of our course venues are not the normal teaching venues from the system, they then presented as “TBA” on AIMS. Please check the exact class venue according to the PE Course Timetable.

What is the procedure for completing “PED1305 Physical Fitness – Elementary” (PED1305)?

How long can I receive the fitness user eligibility after completing “PED1305 Physical Fitness – Elementary” (PED1305)?

Upon completion of the “PED1305”, you will receive the fitness user eligibility and a course completion email within 3 to 7 working days.

What is the difference between “PED1305 Physical Fitness – Elementary” (PED1305) and “Physical Fitness Room User Training Workshop”?

“PED1305” is for full-time students who can do the web add/drop through AIMS, while “Physical Fitness Room User Training Workshop” is for full-time staff, dependents (at the age of 15 or above) and spouse of full-time staff, and part-time students.

How much should I pay for the off-campus venue charge for “PED1402 Golf – Elementary” and “PED2402 Golf – Intermediate”?

As the last sessions of the captioned courses will be conducted in the golf driving centre, students have to pay for the booking fee of the driving bays. It is around HK$60.00. Your instructor will give you the most updated price during the class.

How many days do I need to take for “PED1804 Basic Mountain Craft”?

You need to attend 2 full day (0900-1700) for the course. There is a half-day trip with theory session during the first meet while a full-day trip on the week after. Please attend the course according to the PE Course Timetable.

Physical Fitness Room User Training Workshop

General

Q1)

Ans:

Who can enroll in the fitness workshop?

CityUHK full-time staff, their dependent (at the age of 15 or above) or spouse, and CityUHK part-time students can enroll in the 2-hour “Physical Fitness Room User Training Workshop”.

 

Staff dependents and spouses must hold a valid CityUHK ID card.

 

Full-time students should enroll the “PED1305 Physical Fitness – Elementary” (PED1305).
