Anti-Deception
In recent years, Hong Kong has witnessed a rise in cases of telephone and internet scams, with non-local students often targeted. These scams take various forms, including investment fraud, online romance scams, and telephone deception. It is essential to remain cautious, particularly when receiving calls from individuals claiming to represent well-known courier companies or government departments such as the Immigration or Health Departments.
Scammers frequently impersonate government officials, couriers, or potential employers, attempting to obtain personal information or request financial transactions. You must never share your personal details or transfer money to anyone suspicious. If you are uncertain about the authenticity of a call or message, please seek assistance by contacting the Anti-Deception Coordination Centre of the Hong Kong Police Force at (852) 18222.
As students, your safety and protection against fraud are paramount. Always prioritise caution and stay informed to guard yourself against deception. If you believe you have been a victim of a scam or fraud, report it immediately to the appropriate authorities. By working together and maintaining vigilance, we can help keep our community safe from these criminal activities.
