Thirty-seven of the 39 students in the first intake for the Master of Arts in International Accounting programme (MAIA—HIT) in Shenzhen came to campus for their day-long orientation, 14 February. All were impressed with the academic content and structure of the programme, not to mention the sophisticated learning facilities on campus.

CityU's College of Higher Vocational Studies signed a collaborative agreement with Coventry University in the UK on 9 February to launch a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Business Information Technology. It is the first full-time top-up degree programme in IT and e-commerce related fields jointly put forth by the College's Division of Computer Studies and an overseas institution.
On 5 February, the University announced the winners of the Fourth Applied Research Excellence Awards Competition, organized every two years by the Technology Transfer Office, to foster applied research and to recognize staff that excel in this area. Four awards were granted to six CityU researchers in recognition of their significant contributions to the social, industrial, and economic development of Hong Kong.
In an effort to expand CityU's academic exchanges and cooperation with institutions in Europe, President H K Chang and Dr Zhu Guobin, newly appointed Director of the External Liaison and Cooperation Office (ELCO), paid a visit to three prestigious universities in France, Belgium and the UK respectively, from 14-20 January. The trip successfully created a framework upon which to explore opportunities for collaboration between these European universities and CityU.
