Chair Professor Philippe G Ciarlet from the Department of Mathematics has been elected a foreign member of CAS in recognition of his contribution to solving critical issues in mechanics and modern engineering, as well as promoting mathematics in China.
Three students from the College of Science and Engineering earned a Meritorious Winner honour from among 1,675 international teams in the 2009 Mathematical Contest in Modelling.
