Three Council members of the University, Chairman Sir Gordon Wu, The Honourable Lau Ping-cheung, and Mr Vincent Chow; and Professor Y S Wong, Vice-President (Administration), are on this year's Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Chief Executive Honours List for their significant contributions to Hong Kong and their dedicated community service.
Dear Colleagues: I’ve been working for CityU for more than eight years. During this time, I’ve felt that the University has gone through many changes except, that is, for our bilingual staff newsletter, Linkage, or Ling Ji (靈機)in Chinese. Linkage is of course about connecting colleagues at different departments and levels by means of its publication and has nothing to do with “having a sudden inspiration”, as the Chinese Ling Ji suggests in the Chinese idiom “ling ji yi dong”.
Three hundred students and guests applauded the slogan "Reading for fun, I'll do it", at the Opening Ceremony of "World Book Day" and "2004 Hong Kong Reading Month" on 23 April at CityU's University Circle. The Ceremony was co-organized by CityU, RTHK Radio 1, the Hong Kong Publishing Federation, Hong Kong Education City, The Hong Kong Association of Youth Groups, and Hong Kong Public Libraries (Leisure and Cultural Services Department).
On 20 April 2004, Professor H K Chang, University President, together with CityU's Deputy President and two vice-presidents, met with 17 student representatives, led by Mr Kelvin Chan, President of the Students' Union, to exchange views on the issue of "deep collaboration" between CityU and the Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU).
Dear Colleagues, At the end of March, I led a CityU delegation to Shanghai. The visit came in response to an invitation extended to us in 2002 from Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU). It was delayed due to SARS and other circumstances last year. The trip proved to be both inspiring and sobering.
