First HK Tech Forum at CityU
Distinguished scholars from around the world gathered at the HK Tech Forum on Data Science and AI, hosted by HKIAS at CityU from 26 to 27 July, to address challenging issues in driving data science and AI technology for the benefit of society.

15 academic subjects at CityU have been ranked in the top 50 in the world, according to the ShanghaiRanking’s Global Ranking of Academic Subjects (GRAS) 2022, while Library and Information Science is ranked 2nd globally. These results place CityU 1st among Hong Kong universities for five consecutive years in terms of the highest number of subjects included in the top 50 GRAS list.

CityU will host six forums in the HK Tech Forum series in the second half of 2022. A number of world-leading scholars, including numerous Nobel Laureates and Turing Award recipients, will take part in the forum and give speeches.

Deep learning tool improves chicken welfare by identifying distress calls
A research team led by CityU has developed a deep learning model that can identify and quantify chicken distress calls from natural barn sounds with 97% accuracy. This breakthrough will help improve conditions and the welfare of chickens raised on crowded commercial farms.
A hundred students and staff packed the Screening Room of the School of Creative Media (SCM) in the evening of 22 October. They were watching Night Corridor, an independent movie directed by SCM Assistant Professor Mr Julian Lee.
The summer of 2003 proved to be very rewarding for 40 Associate Degree students who participated in a nine-week career exposure programme that placed them in organizations such as the Society of Boys' Centre, Hong Kong Student Aid Society, and Princess Margaret Hospital. Most experiencing full-time work for the first time, the students found the programme an eye-opening in terms of career and personal development.
