The Department of Electronic Engineering of CityU was ranked second worldwide, according to a recent survey conducted by Yuan Ze University in Taiwan.
Professor Hong Yan of the Department of Electronic Engineering has been elected Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) for 2006 in recognition of his outstanding contributions to image recognition techniques and applications.
CityU graduates have swept up most of the prizes in the Best Paper Awards at the 6th IEEE (Hong Kong) Antennas and Propagation/Microwave Theory and Techniques Postgraduate Conference.
Double congratulations are due to Dr Kenji Yum. Not only will he graduate from CityU this week with a PhD in Electronic Engineering, he has also been awarded the Certificate of Excellence in the 2005 Hong Kong Young Scientist Awards.
"Whatever you do, do it with your best." By a spirit of perseverance, Mr Kenji Yum Tsz-yin, an electronic engineering graduate this year, clinched the championship in the IEE Hong Kong Young Members Section Paper Contest 2002 with his paper "Novel Sub-harmonically Pumped Mixers Incorporating Spiral Compact Microstrip Resonant Cells for Low Cost Wireless Communications Subsystems". The eight finalists in the contest are all PhD students, except Kenji.

Kenji Yum Tsz-yin, bachelor's degree graduate of the Electronic Engineering Department this year, outperformed seven PhD students from other local tertiary institutions and got the champion in the IEE Hong Kong YMS (Younger Members Section) Paper Contest held in September.
