Famine 24 for Bangladesh

 

 

Around 130 students took part in the charity event Famine 24 held at City University of Hong Kong (CityU) campus from 21 to 22 October.

Themed “Make no Exception – Bangladesh” this year, the event focused on the adverse situation faced by children and women in Bangladesh. During the 24 hours of fasting, students participated in various activities to understand more about the issues of child labour and child marriage.

Professor Way Kuo, CityU President, and Ms Emily Chan Hoi-man, representative of World Vision Hong Kong, attended the opening ceremony.

“Among the total population of 7.5 billion people in the world, there are 2.5 billion people who do not have the privilege of power supply. While Hong Kong is blessed with abundant resources, I hope that students can develop the habit of cherishing food and saving energy,” Professor Kuo said at the ceremony. He commended participating students for supporting people in less developed countries.

The event, organised by the 32nd Social Service Team of the CityU Students’ Union, aimed to raise awareness about famine and poverty issues in developing countries and to raise funds for World Vision Hong Kong.
