Almost 100 City University of Hong Kong (CityU) research projects have been awarded funding from the 2009-10 General Research Fund (GRF). The funding is granted to University Grants Committee institutions by the Research Grants Council.

The latest funding announcement revealed that 96 CityU projects were funded with a nett value of $53.4 million, representing a 31.4% application success rate.

In the category of physical sciences, CityU achieved the highest percentage of successful applications, at 68.4% compared to the sector-wide average of 57.3%. CityU ranked third overall among the eight higher education institutions in terms of the number and level of funding in the Humanities, Social Sciences and Business Studies category. In other highlights, CityU obtained the highest number of Mathematics research grants, with 13 projects receiving $6.56 million.

Five CityU projects received GRF grants worth more than $1 million (see table below). Thirteen CityU applicants from the College of Business and College of Science and Engineering received 100% funding with no reductions in their budget.
