Elderly go back to school

The Elder Academy of City University of Hong Kong (CityU) held an orientation ceremony today (1 September) for 38 senior citizen students who will take part in 27 undergraduate courses at CityU.

To help them familiarise with university life and the study environment, the University has recruited 20 undergraduate students through the Buddy Scheme to help senior students learn about the modes of teaching and utilise the electronic learning platform.

CityU is dedicated to promoting the concept of life-long learning. The ElderAcademy is established in cooperation with the Elderly Commission and the Labour and Welfare Bureau, which encourages the elderly to take part in education, improve their well-being and maintain a sense of worthiness. It also promotes inter-generational solidarity and cross-sector collaboration on issues affecting the elderly.
