City University of Hong Kong is renowned for its many collaborations with industry, but it also contributes to the community by fostering academic co-operation among local and overseas schools.
Four academic departments-- Biology and Chemistry (BCH), Electronic Engineering (EE), Economics and Finance (EF), and Accountancy (AC) and the Centre for the Enhancement of Learning and Teaching (CELT) are collaborating in a project to enhance students' learning and growth. The project, the Virtual Learning Support Centre for Students (VLSC), is a cyber location for participating departments to post web pages specifically devoted to students' learning.
If you're thinking of applying for admission to one of CityU's postgraduate programmes, you'll be happy to know that the application process just got easier. Beginning 15 February, the CityU prospectus website will include a feature that allows the submission of online applications. Currently the site offers downloadable applications.
A former PhD student of the Department of Electronic Engineering (EE), Dr Tse Kwok-kuen, has won the Silver Award in the "Young Inventors Awards 2000" organized by the Far Eastern Economic Review and Hewlett-Packard Asia Pacific. Dr Tse is awarded for his revolutionary technique to lower the cost of extracting maximum power from a solar panel.
