CityU’s Faculty of Business (FB) ranks among the top 100 business schools in the world, according to the School of Management of The University of Texas at Dallas (UTD), in the US. The ranking also shows that the FB stands among the top five business schools within the Asia Pacific region and among the top 15 in the world, outside of North America. CityU is one of the three universities in the Greater China area to be on the list. The UTD ranking is based on the educational institutions' research contributions to 22 leading business journals.

“The ranking is a recognition of our research output and excellence,” said FB Associate Dean, Professor Matthew Lee. “Many of our papers that got published in those 22 top academic journals are in the applied research area of Knowledge and Innovation Management (KIM). We have proved that with applied research work we can gain access to top academic journals and that these journals are not exclusive to basic research. I think this also proves that we are in the right direction taking a highly focused approach to KIM in recent years.”

KIM is one of CityU's six research areas recognized by the University Grants Committee (UGC) as having demonstrated competitiveness at an international level. In the FB, there is a research centre on KIM with close to 40 researchers working on such topics as: knowledge-based logistics and transportation management; knowledge/information systems design, adoption and security; product innovation management; and the human, economic and marketing aspects of knowledge and innovation. The Faculty also conducts a joint PhD programme on KIM with the University of Science and Technology in Suzhou on the mainland.
