CityUHK response to orientation camp incident: Student Discipline Panel investigation concludes; students admit mistakes, apologise and accept disciplinary penalties
City University of Hong Kong (CityUHK) announces that all students involved in the recent orientation camp incident have admitted their mistakes, formally apologised to the University, and accepted disciplinary penalties. The Students’ Union affiliate society acknowledged serious mismanagement, immediately dissolved its executive committee, and issued an apology to the community. The students concerned also admitted misconduct and apologised to the University.
The University’s Student Discipline Panel has completed its investigation into the incident and imposed disciplinary penalties on the organisers and the students involved. In accordance with established procedures, further details will not be disclosed to protect student privacy.
CityUHK reiterates its zero tolerance for misconduct. At the same time, the University fully understands the concerns expressed by parents and the wider community. The University hopes that through this incident, the students involved will recognise that breaching University rules and causing disruption to the public and participants carries responsibility and serious disciplinary consequences.
At the same time, the University remains committed to its mission of inspiring and guiding students, enabling them to cultivate character, social responsibility, and continually improve themselves as they prepare for future challenges. The University hopes society will allow the students involved the space to make amends, to learn from experience, and to grow as they take responsibility for their actions.
In addition, Student Development Services will provide further workshops on student activity management for organisers of similar activities, and has established a dedicated hotline to provide mental health support and additional assistance for students in need.
CityUHK will continue to safeguard a safe, respectful and supportive campus environment, ensuring that all students can learn and grow with integrity.
