Innovation on the Rise – 30 Years and Beyond CityUHK reports a healthy financial status

City University of Hong Kong (CityUHK) is pleased to announce the release of its 2024/25 Annual Report today (18 December), titled “Innovation on the Rise – 30 Years and Beyond.” This report highlights the University’s unwavering commitment to societal impact through pioneering research and the development of future leaders through innovative professional education.

Under the leadership of Professor Freddy Boey, President and University Distinguished Professor, CityUHK has been instrumental in establishing the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) of the People’s Republic of China, as a global hub for post-secondary education and high-caliber talent. This aligns seamlessly with the national vision of elevating China to the forefront of global education. The University’s commitment to innovation and community engagement is evident in its substantial investments in academic excellence, cutting-edge research, and strategic global partnerships with industries and institutions.

Through prudent financial management, CityUHK continues to allocate resources efficiently, mitigate risks, and capitalise on opportunities, ensuring financial stability and growth. The University’s financial performance, marked by a surplus of $586 million, underscores its dedication to excellence in education and research. This surplus is attributed to increased enrollment in master’s programmes, a rise in earmarked research grants, and higher returns on investments, all contributing to a robust revenue stream for future development.

“In light of the evolving landscape of public funding, the University recognises the imperative to move beyond reliance on traditional funding sources and is fully committed to diversifying its revenue streams.,” noted Mr Charles Chin Ying-on, Treasurer of CityUHK.

Mr Chin further emphasised, “CityUHK remains steadfast in advancing national priorities for China to become a global leader in education and in reinforcing HKSAR’s status as an international education hub. Through rigorous financial management, strategic resource allocation, and an unwavering drive for innovation, the University will continue to strengthen its resilience and ability to seize emerging opportunities.”
