CityUHK confers Honorary Fellowships on two distinguished persons
City University of Hong Kong (CityUHK) conferred the title of Honorary Fellow on two distinguished persons today (19 September) in recognition of their service to the University and the community, and encourage their distinctive contributions to their fields.
The distinguished persons are:
• Dr Eugene Kin Keung Chan, SBS, BBS, JP, a dental surgeon and community leader
• Mr Zhang Bo, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of China Hongqiao Group Limited
Officiating at the ceremony were Mr Michael Ngai, Council Chairman of CityUHK and Professor Freddy Boey, University President and University Distinguished Professor.
In his address, Mr Ngai expressed gratitude to both Honorary Fellows for their invaluable insights on and contributions to the University’s growth over the years. With indelible achievement for the society through their exceptional leadership, integrity, and dedication, they stand as role models for the CityUHK community and the wider society. He pointed out that Dr Chan is a distinguished dental professional and a dedicated community leader who has been at the forefront of Hong Kong’s healthcare development for decades, and Mr Zhang, who participated through video conferencing from Shandong, is a visionary entrepreneur and committed philanthropist. In addition to his extraordinary achievements in business, he generously supports the University’s strategic initiatives and firmly believes that giving back to society is an important part of corporate development.
He said, “Though their background differs, Dr Chan and Mr Zhang have a shared sense of duty, a commitment to excellence, and a belief in the transformative power of knowledge and innovation. Their achievement, humbleness and power of embracing education and innovation have deeply inspired us.”
Dr Chan, speaking on behalf of the Honorary Fellows, appreciated that CityUHK has cultivated professionals and leaders who understand that true achievement is measured by the difference one makes in the lives of others. He said, “It makes me deeply proud to help further this mission and to play a part in CityUHK’s transformation and ongoing success. I accept this Honorary Fellowship alongside Mr Zhang Bo. We will continue advocating for equitable and accessible healthcare, to serve our community with diligence and compassion, and to nurture the next generation of professional and executive leaders.”
