The world’s first-ever kung fu heritage project, jointly built by City University of Hong Kong (CityU) and the International Guoshu Association (IGA), will preserve the culture of martial arts using unique 360 degree 3D motion capture technology.
The technology for The Hong Kong Martial Arts Living Archive renders different kung fu styles and forms in 360 degree as computer animation. Developed by CityU’s Centre for Applied Computing and Interactive Media, the archive will be a milestone in the establishment of a digital database with multimedia technology.
CityU will introduce the archive on 29 April and kung fu masters will provide a live demonstration of the 3D motion capture at the same event.
IGA has raised funds via FringeBacker, an online crowdfunding platform, for the project and has received support from the Lau Kar Leung Film Boxing Director Charitable Foundation.
