Memory loss is one of the most feared consequences of ageing, and it is a symptom of patients with Alzheimer's disease and other forms of dementia.

Professor He Jufang of the Department of Biomedical Sciences at City University of Hong Kong (CityU) and his team have discovered a neuromodulator which plays a crucial role in long-term memory formation. The findings may help develop drugs that can alleviate or even reverse the memory loss process caused by ageing or forms of dementia such as Alzheimer’s disease.

The research report was published recently online in Cell Research, a prestigious international journal published by the Nature Publishing Group.

Professor He is now directing a collaborative CityU and the Chinese Academy of Sciences team for the development of memory drugs. He will introduce his research and its application at the briefing.
