An international panel of successful social entrepreneurs and innovators will be sharing their experiences at the International Symposium: Discovery and Idea Incubation for Realizable and Scalable Social Impact, which will be held at City University of Hong Kong (CityU) from the 1 to 5 November.
The symposium focuses on discovering innovative solutions to address social challenges and will feature a number of forums delivered by entrepreneurs and case-study presentations from successful social enterprises from all over the world. Mr Michael Norton, Social Innovator, author, Co-Founder of UnLtd and the International Centre for Social Franchising, will present a keynote speech titled “Turning Social Enterprise Dreams into SE Realities: Case-histories” on the first day of the event. Professor Arthur Ellis, Provost of CityU, will officiate at the Welcome and Official Opening.
The Project Flame Scaling-up Awards will be held on the last day of the symposium. In this session, finalists will be pitching and presenting their ideas for scaling up their social enterprise. One of the projects, SafeArrival, is an RFID-based service system installed on cross-boundary school buses which take school children between Shenzhen and Hong Kong every day. The project was proposed by a team of four, including two CityU students. The system works by sending instant text messages to inform parents that the bus has arrived. Another project, Hand2 Spot, led by a CityU research assistant and students, is a platform for trading second-hand goods.
