Opening Reception, SCM7/K11-Transcendent Ordinariness New Media Art Exhibition

Have you ever thought about the ways in which everyday objects such as toasters, irons, violins and pianos might be transformed into unexpected and humorous works of art? If so, this exhibition will surprise and entertain you with its creative ingenuity.

The School of Creative Media (SCM) at City University of Hong Kong is proud to present the artistic achievements of a selected group of graduate students in a new media art exhibition, SCM7/K11- Transcendent Ordinariness, from 6 to 30 July at K11 Art Mall.

This exhibition will showcase the works of seven outstanding SCM alumni: Mr Alan Kwan Tsz-wai, Mr Andy Li Wing-ho, Mr Eric Siu Chi-man, Mr Jasper Fung Tsun-yin, Mr Kenny Wong Chi-chuen, Mr Marco De Mutiis and Ms Tiffany Sum Yu-yan.

Professor Jeffrey Shaw, Dean of SCM, is enthusiastic about the collaboration with K11: “This exhibition gives us the opportunity to showcase works of SCM alumni who are giving shape to the future of new media art in Hong Kong. Many have already earned exposure in exhibitions and art festivals abroad, some are young educators with notable academic achievements, and others are taking leadership positions in the creative industries.

“SCM wants to engage the remarkable achievements of its students with the broader Hong Kong public and therefore is grateful to the K11 Art Foundation for providing us with the vision and opportunity to present this exhibition,” he added.

The opening reception will be held on 6 July, 2–4pm, at the K11 Art Space. The event will feature a live audio-visual performance by SCM alumni Mr Ariel Huang and Mr Choi Sai-ho, who recently won the Hong Kong Arts Development’s Young Artist (Media Arts) Award.

Media interviews with Professor Shaw and the participating artists are welcome.
