The School of Energy and Environment at City University of Hong Kong (CityU) has successfully developed an innovative process to turn food waste into bioenergy that can potentially cover 1 to 2% of local electricity consumption and reduce the volume of food waste destined for landfills by at least 50%.
 
Professor Johnny Chan Chung-leung, Dean of the School of Energy and Environment, and Dr Patrick Lee Kwan-hon, Assistant Professor from the school and the project’s principal researcher, will be present at the media briefing to explain details of the research and its potential benefits for Hong Kong. This will be followed by a visit to the laboratory where Dr Lee will show how they use bacteria to undergo the transformation process.
