We would like to invite you to cover the following event:
Event: Press Conference for Leung Ka-ming -- Hong Kong’s First Épée Representative to the Olympic Games
Date: 19 July 2012 (Thursday)
Time: 2:30 pm
Venue: Conference Room, Hu Fa Kuang Sports Centre, City University of Hong Kong, 83 Tat Chee Avenue, Kowloon Tong, Hong Kong
Leung Ka-ming, a Year 2 applied social studies student at City University of Hong Kong (CityU), took up épée fencing at the age of 13 and has represented Hong Kong at several international events. His road to the Olympics has been challenging because he has had to self-fund his overseas tournaments in the past due to the lack of support from the Government. But thanks to the backing of his family and friends, he has been able to persevere with his career. He came third in the Men’s Individual Épée Category in this year’s Fencing Asian & Oceanian Olympic Qualification Tournament to become the first épée fencer to represent Hong Kong in the Olympics.
Mr Wu Siu-cheung, a CityU alumnus and a fellow member of the Hong Kong épée team, loaned money to the financially struggling Leung Ka-ming to cover his overseas épée trips in the past. The two fencers will share their stories with the press at the conference.
