City University of Hong Kong (CityU) will present the 2nd William Benter Prize in Applied Mathematics to a world pioneer in applying mathematical modeling in biological and medical sciences to enhance people’s well-being, as well as in addressing matrimonial problems.
The scholar is renowned for his tremendous contributions to using mathematical models to address a wide spectrum of biomedical problems such as the growth and control of brain tumours. Another area of his research lies in modeling marital interaction and divorce prediction for the purpose of developing a scientifically based marital therapy. Data has been collected from several hundred couples and the results are surprisingly accurate.
The winner will present a talk on modeling in the biomedical and social sciences following the ceremony. The media is welcome to cover the event and interview the winner afterwards.
