Six outstanding teachers will receive the 2011-12 Teaching Excellence Awards at City University of Hong Kong (CityU) on 17 April at the University.
Mrs Cherry Tse Ling Kit-ching, Permanent Secretary for Education, Education Bureau, HKSAR, will give a speech on the “Importance of teaching excellence in Hong Kong’s higher education sector” at the presentation ceremony, which Professor Way Kuo, CityU President, will host.
The six award winners include a business school teacher of Latvian origin who has won CityU’s Teaching Excellence Awards two times before; a PhD graduate from Tsinghua University who taught himself Cantonese in order to enhance communication with his computer science students; a creative media professor who motivates student learning through his pioneering “special interest groups”; an engineering teacher who uses his own innovative pedagogic model to help students turn their ideas into invention; an electronics engineering teacher who regards teaching as coaching students inside and outside the classroom; and an English teacher who has taught in Russia and the Middle East. The winners will introduce their unique pedagogies and share their teaching experiences with the media.
