Opening and Graduation Ceremony for Chinese Judges
The School of Law of City University of Hong Kong (CityU) will hold the Opening and Graduation Ceremony for the first and the second legal programmes for Chinese judges on 8 January 2010. Following the success of the first “Master of Laws (LLM) Programme” and “Advanced Programme for Chinese Senior Judges” in 2009, CityU is organising the second programme for selected Chinese judges again this year. The LLM Programme is a full-time twelve-month programme specifically designed for Chinese judges under the tripartite agreement between the School of Law of CityU, the National Judges College of the Supreme People’s Court of China and the School of Law of Columbia University.
The pioneer programmes tailored specifically for Chinese judges are built upon the "one country, two systems" principle. The programmes not only provide an opportunity for Chinese judges to gain exposure to the common law system, but also create a platform for exchange in constitutional development and legal education. After completing the programmes, the Chinese judges have gained international legal perspective, which will contribute to the professional development and internationalisation of the judicial system in mainland China.
30 Chinese judges have been selected and admitted to the LLM Programme 2010. And the judges of the LLM Programme 2009 will share the experience with them in the ceremony. In addition, another 37 Chinese judges will join the second Advanced Programme for Chinese Senior Judges in January 2010 for four weeks.
