Mr Timothy Mo, a well-known Anglo-Chinese novelist, and Chair Professor Zhang Longxi, a leading scholar in East-West comparative literature and cross-cultural studies, will engage in a dialogue to discuss the differences and affinities between the East and the West and how they look at their role as cultural mediators between the different traditions.

 

Mr Timothy Mo was born in Hong Kong in 1950 and educated in Hong Kong and England. He is one of the most important novelists writing about bi-cultural diversity, reflecting his concerns about the effects of imperialism and colonial rule in Southeast Asia. His novels have been shortlisted for the Booker Prize for Fiction, awarded the Geoffrey Faber Memorial Prize, the Hawthornden Prize and the James Tait Black Memorial Prize (for fiction).

 

Professor Zhang Longxi, Chair Professor of Comparative Literature and Translation at City University of Hong Kong, has attained world renown as a scholar and prominent author on humanities and cross-cultural studies. His main research interest is in promoting cross-cultural understanding between China and the West, from the perspective of East-West comparative studies. He has been selected as a Foreign Member of The Royal Swedish Academy of Letters, History and Antiquities.
