CityU, Columbia University unite to train Chinese judges

The School of Law of City University of Hong Kong (CityU) officially signed a mutual agreement with Columbia University School of Law (CLS) today (29 October) to develop a training programme geared towards providing advanced legal education and improving the international exposure of Chinese judges. The agreement is another pioneering partnership to help in the provision of globalised education through cooperation with first-rate institutions.

Under the agreement, the programme will commence in June 2009 and is expected to involve 30 Chinese judges visiting CLS. They will experience the common law system in the
CLS, founded in 1858, stands at the forefront of legal education. CLS joins traditional strengths in international and comparative law, constitutional law, administrative law, business law and human rights law with pioneering work in the areas of intellectual property, digital technology, sexuality and gender, and criminal law.
