City University of Hong Kong (CityU) will host the Cross-cultural Perspectives on East Asian Cinemas: an International Symposium to present established scholars from local and overseas institutions to introduce new ways of understanding film — both as a popular culture medium and a powerful social discourse, from 3 July to 4 July.

Officiating Guests at the Opening Ceremony include Professor Paul Lam Kwan-sing, Acting Vice-President (Undergraduate Education), Professor Jonathan Webster, Head, Department of Chinese, Translation and Linguistics, and Professor (Chair) Zhang Longxi, Department of Chinese, Translation and Linguistics. Professor Zhang Yingjin, author of Chinese National Cinema, will deliver the keynote speech on Chinese cinema and transnational film studies.

You are welcome to attend the Filmmakers on Filmmaking seminar to be held on the afternoon of 4 July. Award-winning directors and producers Mr Gordon Chan Car-seung, Mr Joe Cheung Tung-cho, Mr Ning Jingwu and Ms Michelle Yeh will share their valuable industry experience.
