Applying creativity to physics, more than 1,000 secondary students in Forms 1 to 7, from more than 100 Hong Kong and Macau schools, will participate in the Inter-school Straw Competition 2008 organised by City University of Hong Kong (CityU) this Sunday (27 April). Contestants will construct launchers to propel a ball with the straws provided. The launcher that rolls the ball the furthest wins.

 

You are welcome to attend the testing session in the afternoon. Professor Henry Chung Shu-hung, Associate Dean of CityU’s Faculty of Science and Engineering, and Dr Jonathan Chung Chi-yuen, Associate Professor of CityU’s Department of Physics and Materials Science, and student representatives will talk about the highlights of the competition. Winners of the junior and senior categories will also meet with the media to talk about their winning designs after the testing session.

 

Note: All competing teams will build their straw launchers in the morning of 27 April. For arrangements to cover this production session, please contact the Communications Office at CityU in advance.
