Professor (Chair) Paul Chu Kim-ho of City University of Hong Kong (CityU) has won the 2007 IEEE/ NPSS (Nuclear and Plasma Sciences Society) Merit Award.
The award, which is the Society’s highest honour, recognizes Professor Chu’s outstanding technical contributions to plasma science. It is given out only once a year. Professor Chu, of the Department of Physics and Materials Science, is the first academic from an Asian institute to receive this honour.
His plasma research spans the fields of biomedical, aerospace and electronic engineering. Some of the biomedical applications are currently undergoing clinical trials in Hong Kong, and he works in close collaboration with a research centre under the Chinese Academy of Science.
In addition, Professor Chu has been nominated to join CAS as an Academician. At the media session, he will introduce his research and share his thoughts and feelings about winning the award.
