CityUHK achieves record-high JUPAS applications, leading Band A applications among the eight UGC-funded universities

City University of Hong Kong (CityUHK) recorded over 140,000 applications in the 2026/27 Joint University Programmes Admissions System (JUPAS), reaching a record high and ranking first among all universities funded by the University Grants Committee (UGC). The total number of Band A applications exceeded 19,000, also the highest among all UGC-funded institutions.

In addition, the average admission score of admitted students rose compared to that of the previous year, reflecting CityUHK’s growing appeal to outstanding students and further consolidating its position as a top university.

CityUHK’s Flagship Programmes have expanded to 10 for the 2026/27 academic year, providing students with internationally competitive professional training. The programmes are: Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine; the Integrative Bioscience & Bioengineering Programme; BBA Global Business; Global Research Enrichment and Technopreneurship; the Bachelor of Laws; the International Sustainability Programme for Innovation, Research and Entrepreneurship; AI, Computing and Transformation; Bachelor of Social Sciences in Psychology (Streams: Health and Development/Mind and Brain); and Pathway for Research, Innovation and Multinational Engineering.

Among the top five programmes with the highest admission scores this year, four are CityUHK Flagship Programmes, underscoring the flagship curriculum’s close alignment with frontier development trends and its strong appeal to outstanding students.

• JS1001 BBA Global Business (Features: 3 Exchanges / Joint Bachelor’s Degree Program with Columbia University (US) / Overseas Summer School & Study Tour / Business Consultancy Project / Scholarship and Sponsorship)
• JS1000 BSc Computational Finance and Financial Technology (Streams: Computational Finance / Financial Technology)  
• JS1070 AI, Computing and Transformation (ACT) (Features: Free Choice of Major / One-to-One Advisor / Elite Work Placement / Executive Mentor Scheme / Premium Overseas Exchange / Internship Exchange)

CityUHK offers generous scholarships for eligible students admitted to its Flagship Programmes through JUPAS, covering tuition and accommodation fees, guaranteed hall accommodation, and a one-off overseas exchange grant of up to HK$500,000. This year, 57 JUPAS applicants qualified for the Flagship Scholarship.

CityUHK provides multiple admission routes to recruit talented students based on merit. In the 2026/27 academic year, CityUHK admitted 18 students through the “Student Athletes Admission Scheme (SAAS)”, 17 students through the “Student-Athlete Learning Support and Admission Scheme (SALSA Scheme)”, and 17 students through the “School Nominations Direct Admission Scheme (SNDAS)”. The University offers various scholarships to reward freshmen with outstanding admission results. This year, 274 students were awarded the “CityUHK Scholarships for Hong Kong Talents”.
