Officiating at the ceremony were Professor Chung Shui-ming, GBS, JP, Pro-Chancellor of CityUHK, Professor the Honourable Michael Ngai, Chairman of the CityUHK Council, and Professor Chun-Sing Lee, Acting President of CityUHK.
In his address, Professor Ngai expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the four Honorary Fellows for their invaluable insights into, and enduring contributions to, the University’s development. Through their exemplary leadership, integrity and dedication, they have made profound contributions to their respective professions and society, serving as role models for the CityUHK community and the wider public.
He remarked that Dr Chan embodies an admirable multi-generational philanthropic legacy, carrying forward his family’s devotion to youth education and serving as a steadfast supporter of student development at CityUHK. Ms Chiang, a pre-eminent legal leader, has rendered dedicated service to the Council and the Court of CityUHK for over a decade, guiding the University through a period of historic growth with sharp insight and steady leadership. Dr Leung, a widely respected public health pioneer and former Chief Executive of the Hospital Authority, is a current Court Member and former Council Member of CityUHK. Over the years, he has actively steered the University’s strategic priorities, playing an instrumental role in advancing veterinary education and establishing the CityUHK Institute of Digital Medicine. Mr Tse, who successfully transitioned from an international legal partner to a fintech entrepreneur, previously served as a member of the CityUHK Council and currently serves as a Court Member, as well as an Honorary Director of the CityUHK Foundation. He has also generously established scholarships to empower young talent in law and data science to pursue excellence.
“Our four Honorary Fellows represent the very best of leadership across philanthropy, law, medicine and finance,” said Professor Ngai. “Though their fields are diverse, they are united today by a shared devotion to civic duty and a firm commitment to CityUHK. CityUHK grows stronger because of their extraordinary dedication and achievements — contributions that uplift our University community and create a lasting impact on society.”
Speaking on behalf of the Honorary Fellows, Ms Chiang noted that the physical and intellectual environment of multiculturalism built by CityUHK over the years has fostered a better and more nuanced understanding of today’s world and, in particular, our nation. “My fellow honourees and I are already well aware of the University’s dynamic energy,” she said. “Even so, hearing these achievements recounted makes us all the prouder, reinforcing our deep conviction. We look forward with great anticipation to walking alongside the University on its journey ahead.”
