CityUHK ranked No. 1 in Hong Kong in Nature Index 2026 Chemistry Supplement, highlighting outstanding research excellence

CityUHK ranks first in Hong Kong in the “Nature Index 2026 Chemistry Supplement”. 

City University of Hong Kong (CityUHK)’s research excellence has once again received international recognition in a prestigious academic ranking. In the latest “Nature Index 2026 Chemistry Supplement”, CityUHK delivered an outstanding performance, emerging among the “Leading 200 Institutions”. It was ranked 38th globally and first in Hong Kong, highlighting the University’s international influence and exceptional research strengths in chemistry and interdisciplinary research.

The ranking evaluated global research institutions based on their share of publications in leading chemistry journals between September 2024 and August 2025. CityUHK’s top position in Hong Kong reflects the University’s continued breakthroughs in chemistry research and related interdisciplinary fields, earning it widespread recognition from the international academic community.

The Nature Index report noted that chemistry research is undergoing a period of transformation, driven by emerging technologies and mounting environmental challenges. CityUHK has maintained a leading position in chemistry and is the only university in Hong Kong ranked among the global top 40 and first in Hong Kong across three prestigious international rankings: ShanghaiRanking’s Global Ranking of Academic Subjects 2025, the U.S. News & World Report Best Global Universities Rankings 2025–2026, and the Nature Index 2026 Chemistry Supplement.
