CityUHK table tennis team defends both the men’s and women’s titles for the second consecutive year at the USFHK table tennis championship.

City University of Hong Kong (CityUHK) table tennis team once again proved its dominance at this year’s inter-collegiate table tennis championship, successfully defending both the men’s and women’s titles for the second consecutive year. The women’s team further extended its remarkable streak, securing the title for the fourth year in a row. This achievement highlights the exceptional skills and strong team spirit of CityUHK’s student athletes.

Organised by the University Sports Federation of Hong Kong, China (USFHK), the tournament began in November. From the start of the season, CityUHK’s men’s and women’s squads competed against multiple local universities. Demonstrating superb technique and consistently high-level performance, both teams remained undefeated throughout all rounds of intense competition.

The finals were held on 8 February. With strategic line-ups, deep team cohesion and high morale, CityUHK’s men’s and women’s teams defeated The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology and The Chinese University of Hong Kong, respectively, clinching both championships.

Professor Toh Kian Lam, Director of Student Development Services, attended the event to support the athletes. He remarked that this victory is not just about today’s performance, but also the result of long-term dedication and relentless training. He also expressed his gratitude to the coaches and colleagues for their dedication, and conveyed his heartfelt thanks to the University for its strong support. “The award is more than an honour—it is the best recognition of our athletes’ hard work and commitment. I hope this achievement will inspire students to continue striving for excellence, whether in sports or in their academic journey, always upholding perseverance and teamwork to bring pride to CityUHK.”

Baldwin clinches the “2026 Hong Kong Open Table Tennis Individual Championships” on the same day.

On the same day, CityUHK table tennis team member Baldwin Chan Ho-wah triumphed at another major local event – the “2026 Hong Kong Open Table Tennis Individual Championships”, organised by the Hong Kong, China Table Tennis Association, securing the championship title in a local tournament for the first time.

CityUHK congratulates the table tennis team on their outstanding achievements and wishes all student athletes continued success and brilliance on the court.

 

CityUHK has long emphasised sports development and is committed to nurturing local athletes. Through the Student-Athlete Learning Support and Admission Scheme (SALSA), the University provides comprehensive support to elite athletes, enabling them to pursue both academic and sporting excellence. In the 2025/26 academic year, 16 student athletes were admitted to CityUHK through SALSA, bringing the current total number of SALSA student athletes to 46. In addition, CityUHK offers the Student Athletes Admission Scheme (SAAS) and the Outstanding Athletes Entrance Scholarship (OAES) for Non-Local Students to attract both local and international talent, giving them an opportunity to study at CityUHK. The University also provides scholarships across multiple sports disciplines, helping student athletes balance their studies and athletic pursuits while continually striving for excellence.
