CityUHK rises to 75th in THE World University Rankings, retains No.1 worldwide in Industry and continues to lead Hong Kong in International Outlook

City University of Hong Kong (CityUHK) has achieved an impressive result in the newly released Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings 2026. According to THE’s press release, CityUHK achieved its best-ever performance, ranking 75th globally — up three places from last year.
CityUHK continues to lead in two key areas, ranking first globally for “Industry” and first in Hong Kong for “International Outlook”, underscoring its excellence in industrial collaboration and global partnerships.
THE World University Rankings 2026 evaluated 2,191 universities across 115 countries or territories, reflecting an increasingly competitive landscape. The rankings use 18 indicators to assess performance across five major pillars: Teaching, Research Environment, Research Quality, International Outlook and Industry.
CityUHK has earned a perfect score in the Industry pillar for three consecutive years, maintaining its position as the top university globally in this category. The University also excels in internationalisation, having been named the “Most International University in the World” by THE for two consecutive years in 2024 and 2025, CityUHK retained its top spot in Hong Kong for International Outlook for the eighth consecutive year in the latest rankings, reflecting the prominent results of its global strategy.
Professor Freddy Boey, CityUHK President and University Distinguished Professor, stated, “CityUHK has experienced remarkable growth in recent years. Our academic achievements and innovative research are widely recognised both locally and internationally. We are consistently ranked among the world’s top 100 universities across four major global rankings, reflecting our unwavering commitment to innovation and academic excellence, which continue to earn international acclaim.”
“CityUHK will further advance international education and research collaboration, addressing global challenges through pioneering research and industry-academic-research partnerships. We aim to nurture future leaders with a global vision and reinforce Hong Kong’s role as a hub for higher education in Asia and beyond,” President Boey added.
CityUHK scholars have continued to receive international recognition for their academic achievements. In the recently announced “World’s Top 2% Scientists 2025”, 256 CityUHK scholars were included, two of whom were ranked among the top 1,000 globally, highlighting the University’s strong research capabilities.
Additionally, 32 CityUHK scholars were named Highly Cited Researchers 2024 by Clarivate, placing the University 29th globally, a leap of 15 places from previous year. This ranking places CityUHK 8th in Asia and 2nd in Hong Kong.
