CityUHK signs MoU with Singapore National Eye Centre and Singapore Eye Research Institute advancing research and talent exchange together

City University of Hong Kong (CityUHK) recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Singapore National Eye Centre (SNEC) and the Singapore Eye Research Institute (SERI), opening a new chapter of collaboration in research, education and knowledge exchange.
CityUHK has been actively expanding its collaboration with universities and institutions in Singapore. This is another significant collaborative achievement following the deepening of cooperation with Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD) earlier in September.
The MoU was signed by Professor Freddy Boey, President and University Distinguished Professor of CityUHK, Mr Lee Jiunn Kee, Chief Operating Officer of SNEC, and Professor Jodhibir Mehta, Executive Director of SERI.
Under the terms of the MoU, CityUHK will collaborate with SNEC and SERI to launch a range of joint research projects aimed at driving the development of innovative ophthalmic care solutions in both regions. Additionally, they will actively organise academic seminars and conferences to promote interdisciplinary academic exchange and knowledge sharing. The three parties will also encourage reciprocal visits and exchanges among teaching, research and administrative staff, further broadening the scope of cooperation and deepening professional experiences.
Regarding talent development, the partnership will provide valuable international exchange platforms for postgraduate students. PhD candidates will have opportunities to engage in research exchanges at the partner institutions and participate in research projects under the guidance of experienced mentors, cultivating a new generation of clinical research talent.
Through this collaboration, CityUHK aims to strengthen its role in the global research network and to promote impactful ophthalmic research and innovation. The goal is to bring about new advancements in global eye health and to work together to create a clearer and brighter future.
CityUHK representatives attending the signing ceremony included Professor Anderson Shum Ho-cheung, Vice-President (Research); Professor Isaiah Arkin, Dean of the College of Biomedicine; Professor Wang Jianping, Dean of the College of Computing; Professor Yue Chee-yoon, Dean of Graduate Studies; Professor Ma Wei-ying, Director of the Hong Kong Institute of AI for Science; and Ms Ng Pheck Choo, Senior Director of the Office of the President and Director of the Global Engagement Office.
CityUHK will continue to establish partnerships with top universities and institutions worldwide, actively attract outstanding global talent to ”Study in Hong Kong”, and advance innovation and technology development to maintain Hong Kong’s international competitiveness and appeal, with the goal of building Hong Kong into an international hub for higher education and an international innovation.
