CityUHK celebrates alumna Grace Lau's historic gold medal victory at World Games 2025
City University of Hong Kong (CityUHK) proudly applauds the remarkable achievement of our alumna and 2024 Honorary Fellow, Ms Grace Lau Mo-sheung.
Grace made history by securing the gold medal in female kata at The World Games in Chengdu on 8 August 2025, marking the first medal for the HKSAR team at the Games.
This significant milestone was Grace’s first Gold at a multi-sport competition. She won Bronze at the 2022 World Games in Birmingham, Alabama, the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, and the past two Asian Games.
Her outstanding performance in Chengdu, where she triumphed over Japan’s Maho Ono with a score of 45.3 against Ono’s 43.6, was hailed as "a stand-out performance" by the World Karate Federation.
Currently ranked #1 in world female kata, Grace began karate training at the age of 11 and started representing Hong Kong from the age of 15. Her academic journey began in 2012 through the Student Athletes Admission Scheme at CityUHK, where she pursued studies at the School of Creative Media.
Grace’s unwavering dedication and pursuit of excellence serve as a beacon of inspiration, reminding us that greatness is achieved through commitment and self-belief.
The CityUHK community extends its heartfelt congratulations to Grace for her extraordinary accomplishments and her role as an exemplary ambassador for our University and the broader sports community.
