City University of Hong Kong (CityU) encourages research and innovation. By translating new knowledge and discoveries into applications, CityU contributes to the development of society. Recently, CityU shone again in the top 100 worldwide universities granted US utility patents by the National Academy of Inventors (NAI). CityU ranked 51st in the world on the list, the highest position in the University’s history, and top among local universities for the fifth consecutive year, reflecting the effort CityU has put into promoting innovation and invention.

Following the launch of HK Tech 300, a large flagship innovation and entrepreneurship programme with investment of HK$500 million to support students, alumni, and researchers in transforming their ideas into start-ups, the first cohort of seed fund winning teams were announced earlier. An orientation day was held on 20 May 2021 for the teams to share their ideas and experience.

City University of Hong Kong (CityU) announced on 23 March the launch of a large-scale flagship innovation and entrepreneurship programme, HK Tech 300. With the theme of “Venture Beyond Boundaries” and an allocation of HK$500 million, the Programme aims to establish 300 start-ups championed by CityU students in three years, and establish the largest university-based entrepreneurship programme in Asia.
