Guidelines for Installing Software in CSC Teaching Studios

  1. Compliance with University IT Policies
All software installations must strictly adhere to the university's IT policies and security standards. Departments are responsible for ensuring that installations do not compromise system integrity or violate institutional regulations.

  2. Approval and Licensing Requirements
    • Prior Approval: Departments must obtain formal approval from the Computing Services Centre (CSC) before any software installation.
    • Licensing Compliance:
      • All software must be properly licensed.
      • Users are personally responsible for ensuring compliance with their own software licenses and the Copyright Ordinance.
      • Unauthorised or pirated software is strictly prohibited.

  3. Advance Notice for CSC-Installed Software
For software that requires the CSC to perform the installation:
    • Departments must allow at least 10 working days before the intended use date.
    • Requests submitted with insufficient lead time may not be accommodated.

  4. Software Lifecycle Management
    • All installations must follow the software lifecycle management procedures specified by the CSC.
    • Requested software installed in the CSC Teaching Studio is normally for one academic year. It will be removed afterwards unless an extension is formally requested and approved.
    • Departments should plan for renewals or extensions well in advance to avoid disruption.
