Dear Colleagues and Students,
Medical representatives from the government, Legco and academia, gathered May 22 to discuss the need for the establishment of a regional disease surveillance centre in the territory to tackle the spread of infectious disease. The forum, "Lifting Hong Kong's Regional Status: The Establishment of a Regional Disease Surveillance Centre," was organized by CityU's APEC Study Centre.
Over 40 paintings in a smorgasbord of styles, including impressionism, cubism and traditional Chinese brush painting, are on display now in CityU's Multi-Purpose Room C from 21 to 25 May. Organized by the Cultural and Sports Committee, the exhibition unveils not only works of art by Mr Chiang Hau Fun, but also the artist's love of Hong Kong.
A delegation of consuls-general representing seven countries was greeted by CityU President Professor H K Chang and other staff members on 14 April.
The anxious wait is finally over, sort of. On 9 May, the University Grants Committee (UGC) formally notified CityU that 13 of its 19 associate degree (AD) programmes would be cut off from government funding by 2008. Only six* will retain public support. The withdrawal process is to begin as early as in 2004-05 and end, within a more accelerated timeframe than previously expected, by 2007-08.
