In light of the recent economic downturn that has posed great challenges to the social welfare system in Hong Kong, CityU's Division of Social Studies teamed up with the Hong Kong America Centre to present the "Building New Capacity for Social Entrepreneurship in Hong Kong" conference on May 16.

In March, Professor Stewart Sutherland, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Edinburgh, Scotland, produced the report commissioned by the University Grants Committee (UGC). The document serves as a blueprint for the future of higher education in Hong Kong.
Residents of Wan Chai are trading goods and services for coupons in a novel scheme designed to help the community during the current bleak economic climate. The Hours Coupons project is jointly organized by Dr Wong Hung, a Lecturer in the Division of Social Sciences, and social workers from the St James Settlement.
